What is HHCO?

We already know about THC and CBD, which are two dominant cannabinoids in cannabis and infused products available for consumers; however, they are two out of hundreds of other cannabinoids the plant produces.

Today, a variety of minor cannabinoids have begun to make their way into different vapes, edibles, and pre-rolls, including HHC-O.

What sets HHCO apart from other cannabinoids is the addition of a hydroxylated structure. In comparison to HHC, HHCO is different due to the presence of one or more hydroxyl groups (-OH) attached to its molecular backbone.

Simply put, this is the structure that puts the ‘O’ in HHCO. This changes the characteristics that affect the interaction between the cannabinoid and your endocannabinoid system. Most importantly, it makes HHCO supersoluble, which may allow it to interact differently with biological membranes. Thus, you absorb more of the HHCO into your system, and less goes to waste due to this change. You can expect direct impacts on the onset, duration, and intensity of its effects when compared to HHC.

What are the effects of HHC-O?

We know what you’re thinking: “Hey, I know THC and I know HHC, so this HHCO must be pretty much the same, right?” For sure, you’d be wrong. This is because, due to the increased bioavailability of HHCO, it is comparatively weaker than HHC while some users have reported greater potency with HHCO.

As with all cannabinoids, the dose will set the tone for what you can expect out of taking it. Lower doses usually mean a more relaxed experience, while higher doses can result in euphoric mood increases.

• redness of the eyes

Is HHC-O legal?

Currently, HHCO is still considered legal in many European countries and US states, but legislation changes rapidly. Be sure to check if it’s legal in your state before purchasing.

Another interesting fact is that, due to the synthetic nature of HHC-O, researchers don’t believe it would appear on a drug test. That said, semi-synthetic hemp-derived products may contain neglectible trace amounts of THC, so we can’t know for sure. So it’s always the safest option to abstain from cannabinoid use if you’re worried about passing a drug test.

Vaping HHC-O
